Mark is a knowledgeable musician and teacher. The synthesis of techniques and theory he uses in lessons is effective and responsive to individual learners. Mark’s enthusiasm and patience make each lesson joyful and productive.
I am nearing completion of my 8th decade and have played the piano or a keyboard on and off for most of that time for pleasure and relaxation. I am not a performer and do not wish to be one. I have been losing my vision and have not been able to read music for several years. I have always had a poor memory and depended on reading the music. When I heard that Mark Miller had another way of teaching piano to the blind and visually impaired, I spoke to Mark, explained my situation, and he sent me an audio sample lesson. After listening to that I was hooked! His method is so much easier than just memorizing a multitude of chords, complicated rules, and strange words and theories. He teaches by logic, understanding and relationships of chords to each other and to the music you want to play create and enjoy! The lessons are almost like a story which is easier to remember and enjoy rather than trying to memorize lists of chords complicated rules and strange words and theories. Thank you mark for helping me get music back in my life.
I use the term “low vision” and have a progressive loss. I wanted to learn to play piano without needing to read the sheet music. I learned about Mark Miller through a music teacher in my community. I immediately made contact with Mark in June 2022 and loved how caring, interested, and enthusiastically he interacted with me over the phone. My lessons began in July and I so look forward to the method he uses in each lesson. I have learned more in three months than I did in my youth from age 11 – 18. Theory, chords, triads, circle of fifths, etc. make sense now than ever before! I am a former teacher and recognize a wonderfully skilled teacher when I meet one . . . Mark Miller is that!!
